We work for social justice, striving to center ourselves in God and see that of God in all people.

As a Meeting, Live Oak Friends:

  • Prepare and serve free lunch to members of the Salinas community at the First United Methodist Church on first and third Fridays. Some LOFM members provide music during the meals.
  • Support the Soledad Worship Group, integrated into the local correctional facility programming.
  • Co-sponsor local interfaith events, such as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day activities, Thanksgiving services, and holiday activities.
  • Financially support both local and international non-profits.

Many Live Oak Friends perform community service in a variety of individual ways. A number are active in Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) leadership, both in the community and within the prison system. Learn more about AVP here. Others volunteer as docents at state parks, provide entertainment for Loaves and Fishes in Watsonville, participate in Guitars, Not Guns, and a variety of other forms of community involvement. We also work with other Quaker organizations such as FWCC, Ben Lomond Quaker Center, and more.
